When you want to give up smoking there are lots of ways you can try but most people simply stop and try to tough it out. An alternative approach is to try to slowly reduce your smoking habit by putting off smoking for just ten minutes each time you want a cigarette.

If you delay lighting up by 10 minutes every time you think of having a cigarette you will gradually reduce the amount you smoke and your dependency on it. Delaying having a cigarette gets you used to the idea that you don’t have to smoke to enjoy a coffee As your confidence builds because you know you can manage without you become stronger and better able to quit smoking

The first thing a smoker does is to reach for the cigarette packet but weaning yourself off slowly helps you find alternative things to do with your hands and with your time.

You may find you get more done because you are not wasting time outside smoking. If you get more done and achieve more success smoking becomes less important

We can all delay having a cigarette for one single minute and every minute we can put it off a little longer. Each minute you put off having a cigarette is a minute more of being smoke free and as time goes on these periods can become longer and longer. No smoker needs a cigarette in the way we imagine. How many smokers wake up in the middle of the night because they need a cigarette?

We think we need to smoke but the truth is we do not need cigarettes as much as we think so put off that next cigarette for another 10 minutes and then feel pleased with yourself for demonstrating you do have the willpower to put off having a cigarette.
